Presenting the Hewitt Tomlin Podcast Media Kit

Hewitt Tomlin turned a simple insight as a college quarterback into a global performance platform. At Johns Hopkins University, he and his roommate James Peters saw teammates juggling paper workout packets while carrying iPhones in their pockets. That moment sparked TeamBuildr, a platform built to make coaches more effective, athletes more accountable, and performance programs more connected.

Today, TeamBuildr powers more than 5,000 programs worldwide, from high schools to the Denver Nuggets and Tennessee Titans. Bootstrapped and independent, the company has grown to 50 employees and nearly $10M in annual revenue.

For Hewitt, the mission is bigger than business. TeamBuildr helps coaches prove their value, align departments, and elevate strength training as the most important classroom for confidence, health, and performance. Or as Hewitt puts it, “Wherever athletes and coaches train, we want to be there.”

Get to Know the Man Behind the Journey

  • Hewitt Tomlin is reshaping human performance by championing strength training as both a health imperative and a cultural movement.

His journey began on the field as a four-year starting quarterback at Johns Hopkins, where he saw firsthand how critical the weight room was to building confidence, resilience, and performance. Alongside his college roommate and teammate James Peters, Hewitt recognized a glaring gap: athletes carried paper workout packets in their backpacks while smartphones sat unused in their pockets. That disconnect inspired TeamBuildr, a platform designed to make coaching smarter, training more connected, and performance more intentional.

What started as a scrappy, bootstrapped side project has grown into a global leader in strength and conditioning software, now trusted by more than 5,000 programs worldwide. From high schools and colleges to professional teams like the Denver Nuggets and Tennessee Titans, as well as military and tactical units, TeamBuildr empowers coaches across every level of sport and human performance.

Hewitt’s mission extends beyond business growth. He is a vocal advocate for elevating the profession of coaching, arguing that strength coaches are not support staff but essential educators. He believes the weight room is the most important classroom most schools overlook, a place where every student, not just varsity athletes, should have the chance to build strength, health, and self-belief.

This conviction has positioned Hewitt as one of the most important voices in the future of performance and public health. By pushing for broader access, greater recognition for coaches, and a cultural embrace of strength training, he is helping reimagine how communities approach health, education, and resilience.

  • Hewitt Tomlin grew up in Tennessee as the oldest of five children, a role that shaped his sense of responsibility and leadership from an early age. That foundation carried him onto the field at Johns Hopkins University, where he became a four-year starting quarterback, set school records, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

After college, Hewitt felt the sudden void that many athletes experience when the structure of competition ends. The discipline and drive that defined him on the field had to find a new outlet. Together with his college roommate James Peters, he turned that energy toward building a business from the ground up.

The path was anything but easy. They lost every business competition they entered, worked day jobs while moonlighting TeamBuildr at night. At one low point, Hewitt nearly walked away for a finance job in New York before recommitting fully to the company. By year three, TeamBuildr passed $100,000 in revenue, enough for him to quit his job and live on a $3,000-a-month salary. That leap unlocked the next chapter of growth.

Over the next decade, TeamBuildr became the global leader in strength and conditioning software, trusted by more than 5,000 programs in 30 countries and closing in on $10M in annual revenue as a fully bootstrapped company.

Today, Hewitt is not only a founder but also a leading voice for the profession. He challenges cultural myths around training, advocates for coaches to be recognized as essential educators, and argues that the weight room should be treated as one of the most important classrooms in America.

Away from work, Hewitt is a husband and father, raising three boys. He often reflects on how entrepreneurship has given him flexibility to be present for his family and provide a life for his children that’s different from his own upbringing. Those personal values of persistence, humility, and accountability are the same ones that drive how he leads TeamBuildr and how he champions coaches everywhere.

  • Hewitt’s mission is to transform the weight room into the most impactful classroom in every school and community. Through TeamBuildr, we equip coaches with powerful tools to program efficiently, track progress, and connect training with wellness and performance. By elevating the role of the coach and democratizing access to strength training, we are building a future where confidence, health, and resilience are within reach for everyone.
